Director of Operations

Primary Functions: 

The Director of Operations’ focus will be to manage all activities related to the procurement and manufacturing of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls activities related to the procurement and manufacturing of Beauty/Cosmetic products
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities of both components and finished goods with all other functions of the organization and external 3rd party suppliers to obtain optimum production for planned launches
  • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays
  • Establishes production and quality control standards, develops budget and cost controls, and obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered
  • Prepares instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures
    Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, and prepares market analysis reports
  • Develops a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service
  • Designs, implements, manages, and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements
  • Provides input to the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products
  • Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs
  • Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met
  • Determines responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives
  • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as Supply Chain, Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in co-manufacturing or related field
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative environment and communicate at a high level across multiple functions
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in one or more of the following areas: Procurement, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Operations
  • Beauty products manufacturing experience (color cosmetics highly preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of operational aspects from raw materials through delivery to the customer
  • Proven ability to manage change, ability to work across global boundaries and borders, and strong decision making
  • Strong analytical skills; strategic thinker
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Visio); SAP (BI), ERP, MRP
  • Ability to travel 30% domestically and internationally

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with overseas manufacturers, especially in China
  • Experience in manufacturing color cosmetics
  • English language
